Wheel Stud Installer
A tool used to pull a new wheel stud into the hub assembly.
A wheel stud installer is a specialized tool used to draw a new wheel stud into the wheel hub assembly. When a wheel stud is broken or its threads are stripped, it must be pressed out of the hub and a new stud installed. The new stud features splines at its base that must be pressed tight into the hub hole.
The installer tool consists of a heavy-duty, low-friction bearing washer that is slipped over the new stud. A standard lug nut is then threaded onto the stud and tightened. As the nut is tightened against the bearing washer, it pulls the stud through the hub, forcing the splines into the hole until the stud head is fully seated flat against the back of the hub flange.
Using the correct installer tool prevents damage to the new stud threads and the hub flange. Attempting to install a stud using stack washers or a standard nut without a bearing creates high friction, which can strip the new threads or cause the stud to stretch, weakening the wheel mounting.
