Mode Door Actuator
An electric motor actuator that controls the HVAC mode door to route air to the defrost, vents, or floor.
The mode door actuator is an electric motor assembly that controls the distribution of air to different vents in the vehicle's cabin. It operates the mode doors within the HVAC casing, directing airflow to either the windshield defroster vents, the dashboard face vents, the floor vents, or a combination of these.
When you press the vent selector buttons on the dashboard climate control panel, the HVAC module sends power to the mode door actuator to rotate the door. Similar to the blend door actuator, the mode door actuator uses plastic gears that can strip over time.
A failed mode door actuator typically results in air only blowing from one set of vents (such as the floor vents) regardless of the setting selected, or a clicking sound coming from inside the dashboard when trying to change the vent mode.
