ACamshaft Profile Control Bank

The actuator circuit and control mechanism that switches between different cam lobe profiles on Bank 1.

The ACamshaft profile control bank switches the engine between gas-saving and performance modes. The ECU controls this switch via an oil control solenoid on Bank 1. When you step on the gas, the solenoid opens, directing oil pressure to slide a locking pin into the rocker arm.

This pin locks the rocker arms to the high-lift cam lobe. If the solenoid mesh screen is clogged with sludge, the oil cannot flow. The locking pin will not move, keeping the engine in economy mode.

To fix a profile control issue, mechanics check the solenoid screen for debris. Cleaning the screen with brake cleaner often restores operation. Regular oil changes prevent sludge from clogging these tiny passages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Low engine oil level, using the wrong oil viscosity, a clogged oil control screen, or a failed solenoid.
The system uses hydraulic oil pressure to move the pins that lock the high-lift rocker arms in place.
Remove the solenoid, clean the fine mesh screen filter with brake cleaner, or replace the solenoid if it fails a resistance test.
