ABS Steel Pin

A metal guide pin or alignment pin used inside the ABS modulator valve block or caliper bracket.

ABS steel pins are guide pins inside the ABS brake system. In the hydraulic block, these pins align the internal solenoid armatures. They ensure that the valves slide straight when the computer activates them. In some caliper setups, they act as guides for the brake pads. They must be straight and rust-free.

If these pins bend or rust, the solenoids or calipers will stick. This prevents the ABS from releasing brake pressure properly. During brake service, cleaning and lubricating all guide pins ensures smooth operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

They guide the internal moving parts of the solenoid valves, ensuring they move without binding during rapid pressure changes.
Yes. If the pins do not allow the brake caliper or ABS valves to slide back, the brake pads will stay pressed against the rotor.
Use high-temperature silicone brake grease. Petroleum-based greases will swell the rubber boots and seize the pins.
