ABS Sensor O-Ring

A rubber seal fitted around the shaft of the wheel speed sensor to block moisture and dirt from entering the wheel hub.

The ABS sensor O-ring seals the gap where the sensor enters the hub or knuckle. It keeps water, salt, and dirt away from the tone ring. This prevents rust buildup on the tone ring teeth. If the O-ring dries out and cracks, moisture will enter and cause the tone ring to rust.

Always check the O-ring when installing a new sensor. Lubricate it with a tiny bit of grease to help it slide in. Pushing a dry O-ring into the bore can pinch and tear the rubber.

Frequently Asked Questions

It seals the entry bore on the steering knuckle to prevent road water and dirt from contaminating the sensor and tone ring.
Yes. New sensors always come with a pre-installed O-ring. Reusing an old, flattened ring will let water leak in.
If the O-ring fails, road salt enters the bore and corrodes the aluminum knuckle, locking the plastic sensor body in place.
