Transmission Jack
A specialized hydraulic lift designed to support and lower or raise a transmission during removal and installation.
A transmission jack is a specialized hydraulic lifting device designed specifically for removing and installing vehicle transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials. Unlike standard floor jacks, which have small contact pads, a transmission jack features a large adjustable cradle equipped with safety chains to cradle and secure the bulky, offset shape of a transmission.
Transmission jacks come in two main configurations: low-profile jacks for vehicles on the floor or jack stands, and high-lift jacks for vehicles raised on shop lifts. The cradle can tilt forward, backward, and side-to-side using adjustment knobs, allowing the technician to align the transmission input shaft precisely with the engine's clutch disc or torque converter during installation.
Because transmissions are heavy and awkward, attempting to remove them without a proper jack can result in damage to the engine input shaft, the transmission case, or injury to the technician. The jack supports the full weight of the transmission while it is unbolted from the engine, allowing for a controlled, safe extraction.
