TPMS Relearn

A programming procedure that syncs the vehicle's computer with new or relocated Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensors.

TPMS Relearn is a software synchronization procedure required to link a vehicle's onboard computer (ECU) with the sensors inside the wheels. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) relies on battery-powered sensors attached to the valve stems to transmit tire pressure and temperature data via radio frequency.

A relearn procedure is necessary whenever tires are rotated, a sensor is replaced, or when the system is reset. Without a relearn, the computer will not know which sensor is at which wheel location (e.g., displaying a low-pressure warning for the front left when the actual flat tire is on the rear right) or may show a TPMS system error light.

Relearn procedures vary widely by vehicle manufacturer. Some vehicles have an 'auto-learn' feature that syncs automatically after driving for 20 minutes, while others require manual trigger sequences or a specialized TPMS scan tool plugged into the OBD-II port.
