Torque Strut Mount

A specialized engine mount designed to limit front-to-back engine rotation during acceleration and braking.

A torque strut mount, sometimes called a dog bone mount due to its shape, is a specialized engine mount found on front-wheel-drive vehicles. Unlike primary engine mounts that support the vertical weight of the engine, the torque strut mount is bolted between the top or bottom of the engine and the vehicle's frame to control engine torque rotation.

When you accelerate or shift gears, the engine wants to twist backward or forward; the torque strut mount limits this rotational movement. The mount features rubber bushings at each end to isolate engine vibration.

Over time, these bushings can crack and tear under the repeated stress of acceleration. A worn torque strut mount will cause a noticeable clunking sound when shifting into gear or during hard acceleration, as the engine rocks excessively, putting extra strain on the remaining mounts and exhaust flex pipes.
