Tire Valve Stem Puller
A lever tool used to pull rubber tire valve stems through the valve hole in a wheel rim during tire mounting.
A tire valve stem puller (also called a valve stem installer) is a specialized lever tool used by tire technicians. It consists of a handle connected to a pivoting head with a threaded adapter that screws onto the threads of a new rubber valve stem. It is used to install the valve stem into the wheel rim from the inside out.
To install a valve stem, the technician lubes the rubber base of the stem with tire mounting paste, inserts it through the valve hole from the back of the rim, screws the puller onto the stem tip, and uses the handle to lever the stem through the hole until the base snaps into the sealing groove. The tool features a rubber bumper on its pivot point to prevent scratching or denting the wheel's surface.
Using the proper puller ensures the valve stem is installed straight and is not cut or torn during installation. A damaged valve stem will leak air, causing slow tire pressure loss. Modern valve stem pullers are also designed to be compatible with TPMS sensor valve stems, which are rigid and require careful handling to avoid breaking the sensor housing.
