Strut Spring Seat
The rubber or metal mount that supports the coil spring on a strut assembly.
A strut spring seat is a contoured rubber or metal plate positioned at the top and bottom of a strut assembly's coil spring. It acts as the mounting base for the spring, keeping it aligned and preventing it from making direct contact with the metal strut body or upper mount.
The spring seat acts as an isolator, absorbing high-frequency road vibrations and spring noise. Over time, the rubber seat can dry rot, wear thin, or tear under the constant load and movement of the suspension. When this happens, the coil spring can shift or rub against metal, creating a squeaking, groaning, or clunking noise when turning or driving over bumps.
When rebuilding a strut assembly to replace a leaking shock absorber or broken coil spring, it is standard practice to replace the spring seats and upper strut mount to ensure quiet, smooth suspension performance and prevent future noises.
