Radiator Fan Shroud
A plastic housing that covers the radiator core to funnel and direct airflow through the radiator.
A radiator fan shroud is a plastic or metal housing that mounts to the back of the radiator and surrounds the radiator fan blades. Its primary purpose is to ensure maximum cooling efficiency by funnelling air directly through the entire radiator core rather than letting the fan draw air from the sides.
Without a fan shroud, the cooling fan would pull air from the easiest path—the open engine bay—rather than drawing it through the restrictive cooling fins of the radiator. This would cause the engine to overheat, especially when idling or driving slowly in traffic.
The fan shroud also acts as a safety shield, keeping hands, tools, and loose wiring away from the spinning fan blades. If a shroud is cracked, missing, or improperly installed, engine cooling performance will drop, and the radiator fan can suffer damage if it hits the shroud.
