EGR Valve Gasket
The sealing gasket compressed between the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and its mounting surface to prevent leaks.
The EGR valve gasket is a thin seal compressed between the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and the intake manifold or cylinder head. It prevents hot exhaust gases and intake vacuum from leaking at the joint.
Because the gasket is subjected to the high temperatures of recirculated exhaust gases and the vacuum pressure of the intake manifold, it is typically made of metal-reinforced composite materials or high-temp silicone.
If the gasket fails, it can cause two types of leaks. An external leak will allow noisy, soot-laden exhaust gas to escape under the hood. An internal leak can allow extra air to enter the intake manifold (a vacuum leak), causing a rough idle, engine hesitation, and lean fuel mixture codes.
Replacing an EGR valve gasket is a simple service often performed when cleaning carbon deposits out of the EGR valve or when replacing a faulty valve assembly.
