Clutch Alignment Tool

A splined plastic tool used to align the clutch disc with the pilot bearing and flywheel during pressure plate installation.

A clutch alignment tool is a simple, splined plastic shaft used during the installation of a manual transmission clutch. When replacing a clutch, the clutch disc must be centered perfectly against the flywheel before the clutch pressure plate is bolted down. The alignment tool mimics the transmission's input shaft; it inserts through the splined center of the clutch disc and slides into the pilot bearing or bushing in the center of the crankshaft.

This holds the clutch disc in alignment. Once the pressure plate is torqued to specification, securing the disc, the tool is pulled out, allowing the transmission's input shaft to slide smoothly into place during reassembly.

If the clutch disc is not aligned properly, it is impossible to slide the transmission input shaft into the clutch disc and pilot bearing, which can lead to transmission damage if forced.
