Center Link

The central steering linkage rod that connects the pitman arm, idler arm, and tie rods.

A center link, also known as a drag link in some configurations or a relay rod, is the main horizontal rod in a steering linkage system. It is commonly found on rear-wheel-drive vehicles and trucks with recirculating ball steering systems.

The center link is suspended between the steering gearbox's pitman arm and the passenger-side idler arm, running parallel to the front axle. The inner tie rods connect to the center link, transferring steering inputs to the steering knuckles at each wheel.

Like other steering components, the center link features mounting holes or integrated ball joints that can wear out over time. Worn joints cause loose steering and wheel play. Replacing a worn center link is necessary to restore steering precision and safety.
