Air Suspension Compressor

An electric pump that generates compressed air to inflate the air springs and maintain vehicle ride height.

The air suspension compressor is the electric pump responsible for generating the pressurized air used to inflate the air springs (or air bags) in vehicles equipped with air suspension systems. Controlled by the suspension module, the compressor runs automatically when sensors detect that the vehicle is sitting below its target ride height, such as when carrying heavy passengers or cargo.

It pushes compressed air through lines to the individual air bags. Because air contains moisture, the compressor is typically fitted with an air dryer containing desiccant beads to prevent water from entering and freezing inside the air lines or valves.

The most common cause of compressor failure is an air leak elsewhere in the system (such as a leaking air bag). If there is a leak, the compressor will run constantly to keep the vehicle level, eventually overheating and burning its electric motor out.
