A/C System Performance Test

A diagnostic procedure that measures vent temperatures and system pressures to evaluate the efficiency of the air conditioning system.

An A/C system performance test evaluates cooling efficiency. A technician hooks up a manifold gauge set to check high-side and low-side pressures. They insert a thermometer into the center dash vent and run the system on max A/C. By comparing vent temperatures and pressures to ambient air specs, they can diagnose low charge, blockages, or compressor wear.

Frequently Asked Questions

The air exiting the center vent should be between 35 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit (1.5 to 7 degrees Celsius) when the ambient temperature is 80 degrees.
Typically 30 to 45 minutes, which includes checking pressures, testing vent temperatures, and inspecting components for visible leaks.
Refrigerant pressure is directly related to temperature. As the air outside gets hotter, system pressures naturally climb.
