A/C Compressor Bracket

A cast metal mount bolted to the engine block that holds the A/C compressor in alignment with the accessory belt.

The A/C compressor bracket mounts the compressor pump to the side of the engine. Usually made of cast aluminum or iron, the bracket must be rigid. It must withstand belt tension and engine vibration without flexing. If the bracket cracks or its mounting bolts work loose, the compressor will tilt. This causes belt misalignment, squealing, and rapid belt wear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Severe engine vibration, loose mounting bolts, or impact from a front-end collision.
The bracket must be replaced. Welding cast aluminum brackets is not recommended because the weld can crack under belt tension.
Only if you bypass the compressor with a shorter serpentine belt. If the compressor is loose, it will throw the belt off.
